Enfield Look Out

Yeah, okay. I know it doesn't look like that much. But that's because the town of Enfield was flooded to make way for the Quabbin Reservoir. It used to occupy the land just below that hill (Mt. Ram?) in the center background. A branch of the reservoir actually stretches between those trees in the foreground and the hill beyond. This map does a great job at explaining what you're seeing.

  1. That must have been so sad for the townspeople.

  2. Todo queda muy claro en ese mapa. Con la abundacia de agua se explica el maravilloso verdor de ese paisaje.
    Feliz fin de semana.

  3. Interesting history. I wonder if there is anything of historical significance at the bottom of the reservoir? I like the sawmill blade sign.

    1. My understanding is that efforts were made to dismantle the town in preparation for the reservoir. I wondered the same thing about the saw blade. It would make sense. This was a largely rural area in the 1930s an 1940s and still is. I'm sure there must have been some logging taking place, as there still is some sustainable logging being done.
