Galician Cows

Eucalyptus

"Galicia’s forests have been sold out. Every year they produce more than half of the timber cut in Spain, but in return a trap is being set: one of Europe’s most flammable regions is being filled with matchsticks. The green of the Atlantic forest, the oak and chestnut, is gradually being replaced by that of the eucalyptus, an exotic species that now makes up almost a third of the Galician forest biomass. Eucalyptus has an intimate relationship with fire." -- European Data Journalism Network

Cruceiro de Melide

"Melide´s stone cross is Gothic in style and dates from the 14th century, making it the oldest in Galicia, as Castelao designated it in his work ‘As cruces de pedra na Galiza’. It is located in the heart of the town of Melide, next to the church of San Roque.

The obverse depicts a seated Christ in Majesty, showing the wounds on his hands and a cloth covering his legs. On the reverse is a Calvary with Jesus Christ, above which appears the ancestral symbol: the fleur-de-lis.

The image of Jesus Christ is accompanied by the figures of Saint John and the Virgin and a kneeling figure, which could be Magdalene or another figure depicting the crucifixion. It is believed that it was once polychromed, as some traces of paint can be seen on it. Today the cruceiro stands on a modern column and is formed by a stone cross." -- caminofrances.eu

"Letter" Box

Interesting that this is a "letter" versus a "carta" box in Furelos, Spain.
