So I think I will close out this series with two views of the Bonnet House's freshwater slough. The first is of the Bonnet House itself. The one below is of the covered bridge near the entrance to the slough and depicting the more urban environment now surrounding this little oasis.
From what I read and heard, the owners of Bonnet House imported a troop of monkeys to share their tropical paradise. Sadly, only one remains. Though one can only imagine what Fort Lauderdale would be like if that original colony had survived and grown. A barrel of laughs? :-)
Bonnet House boasts five different ecosystems within the property: primary and secondary dunes, mangrove wetlands, a fresh water slough (below) and a maritime forest.
