As many of you know, I rarely post pictures on this blog that I did not personally take. Friday's post was one of those. Today's is another. This is a photo attributed to Howard Ruffner and republished in an article that appears in today's New York Times. The article, which can be found here, recounts the events of that fateful day on the campus of Kent State University when several students were shot and killed by members of the Ohio National Guard. John Cleary was one of the lucky students who was shot and survived.
I recently had a conversation with a friend who attended Kent State and, as it happened, was only yards away from where this tragic incident took place. It's worth nothing that none of his classmates, he said, some of whom were among the victims, saw this coming.
