Staircases

 

Stopped to talk to one of the carpenters employed by Colonial Williamsburg to maintain its historic structures and learned why colonial staircases were so often built next to windows. It was to take advantage of as much available natural light as possible. Otherwise, it could be rather dark in these houses.

Sprung

 

Despite today's expected rain and cool temperatures might suggest, spring has sprung. Redbuds and buttercups never lie. :-)

Magic

 

The tulips here are beginning to fade, slowly giving way to other flowering plants like irises, wisteria, azaleas, and camelias. Always, to my mind at least, a magical time of year.
