It's that season of the year again when it pays to keep a close eye on what might be lying on the trail in front of you. 

Right now, for instance, turtles everywhere are laying their eggs.

Bonnet House IX

 

So I think I will close out this series with two views of the Bonnet House's freshwater slough. The first is of the Bonnet House itself. The one below is of the covered bridge near the entrance to the slough and depicting the more urban environment now surrounding this little oasis.

From what I read and heard, the owners of Bonnet House imported a troop of monkeys to share their tropical paradise. Sadly, only one remains. Though one can only imagine what Fort Lauderdale would be like if that original colony had survived and grown. A barrel of laughs? :-)
