Igrexa de San Pedro

"The San Pedro de Portomarín church dates from the 10th century although it was consecrated in 1182 by Rodrigo II, Bishop of Lugo, according to an inscription on the church’s façade.

It is of Romanesque origin and was declared an artistic historic monument. Its façade was moved stone by stone from the old Portomarín before the waters of the reservoir covered the town.

The church was built using dressed granite blocks and the door, with its rounded arches and archivolts covered in geometric motifs preserves its Romanesque style. The tympanum is supported on capitals shaped like a bull's head and is decorated with two semicircles surrounded by stars.

The interior contains a stone tomb of the Marquis of Bóveda, and the beauty of the 16th century altarpiece is noteworthy."  -- Ribeira Sacra
